Trauma changes us
Trauma creates change, and not always the change that we want.
I love this tree. This image was inspired by a patient of mine, who felt that this tree represented his trauma story. His life was on track, until trauma forced it in another direction. He could have fallen over, he could have overbalanced and the branches snapped, but instead he sought some "staunch support" to learn how to keep living his life in a new direction.
At OSCAR, we want to share some thoughts with you about recovering from trauma.
Book: The Body Keeps The Score
Released in 2014 by Bessel Van Der Kolk, this book provides a thorough overview of the effects of trauma on the mind and body. Dr Van Der Kolk was part of the original team to develop the diagnosis of PTSD, and has worked with a variety of patient groups to explore emerging treatments in this field.
